<p>A liquid-crystal alignment film capable of aligning liquid crystals molecules even without resort to the rubbing method. The film is prepared from a resin, such as a polyimide, containing photoisomerizable bichroic structural units, such as those of stilbene drivatives, and is given the ability to align liquid crystal molecules when irradiated with linearly polarized light, with the alignment being held and fixed. This film is used in liquid-crystal display elements of electric-field driven type.</p> |
