The mobile container (10) has sheet metal sides and conical bottom portion (12). The valve opening (14) at the bottom is covered by a closable flap valve (24) and there is a motor-driven paddle arrangement (18) on a longitudinal shaft (16) just above the valve to stir the ash (20) and prevent bridging and lodging. The wheels (40) are set at one side of the valve assembly. A variety of different valve arrangements may be used, including multiple flap valves.
