PURPOSE:To obtain a zirconia-based sintered compact, containing Y2O3, specific tetragonal zirconia and isometric zirconia, excellent in abrasion resistance and having a moderate hardness by specifying crystal grain diameter, bulk density and attrition rate. CONSTITUTION:A sintered compact has the following characteristics. The compact contains (a) 2.0-4.0mol% Y2O3 and has (b) a crystal structure of the sintered compact in which the mirror-finished surface of the sintered compact does not contain monoclinic zirconia, but contains >=10% tetragonal zirconia convertible into the monoclinic system by pulverizing treatment after heat-treating and annealing the sintered compact and the remainder is composed of isometric zirconia, (c) <=4mum average crystal grain diameter of the sintered compact, (d) >=5.90 g/cm<3> bulk density and (e) <=0.15% attrition rate of the sintered compact with a ball mill in the form of pulverizing media. |
