A hollow stem piling auger for use in in-situ treatment of contaminated land, the auger having a hollow shank that has been modified from the conventional form in which the majority of the shank has a continuous helical flight and which has, instead, for a major proportion of the length thereof a plurality of mixing paddles 6, these paddles serving to mix treatment reagents injected into the soil of the contaminated land via the hollow shank with the soil in-situ and being adapted to do so without leading to significant raising of soil with the auger when the auger is removed, thereby avoiding soil compaction and risk of surface exposure to the contaminants in the soil. |
