FIELD: medicine; surgery; ophthalmology. SUBSTANCE: cataract extirpation method involves laser irradiation, irrigation, and aspiration of the crystalline lens nucleus fragments. The solid body laser operates in the medium IR waveband 1,900-2,200 nm, pulse energy 10-800 mJ, rate of pulsation 10-100 Hz, pulse duration 50-500 mcs, quasi-rectangular pulses, 500-600 pulses in the entire series. The exposure time is 3.0-3.5 min. This time is sufficient for disruption of intermolecular bonds in the irradiated tissue and fine fragmentation of the crystalline lens nucleus. The fragments are aspired through the working needle tip. EFFECT: full destruction and aspiration of fragments; minimal risk of unfavorable developments in surrounding tissues. |
