PRODUCTION OF EMBOSSING ROLL

PURPOSE: To obtain an embossing roll having no optically irregular patterns by imparting the carved shape of a transfer jig roll to the peripheral surface of an embossing roll by press transfer carving using the jig roll and subjecting the carved surface formed on the roll to grinding finish and plating. CONSTITUTION: A transfer jig roll 2 made of JISSK-3 steel is rotated on an embossing roll with a diameter of 500mm and a surface length of 1000mm in a contact state to be sent while shifted by one pitch per one revolution. By this method, the carved shape of the transfer jig roll is imparted to the roll 1 by press transfer carving to obtain a roll 3 having a carved surface. The carved shape of a generally triangular cross section with a pitch of 200μm and a height of 100μm. An abrasive of an SiC fine powder with an average particle size of 3μm is scattered over the entire surface of the carved surface and the surface of the roll is ground by foam 5 until regular irregularity is eliminated to finish the carved surface.
