<p>The device consists of two concentric coils with an air gap between them in which the discharge takes place. The potential difference between each pair of opposing points is the same. The discharge is limited by being in series with inductances and uniformity is achieved by coupling the inductances. The discharge is struck by applying A.C. potential to the terminals of the coils which are connected in series. The device is improved if the coils are placed in a magnetic circuit in which case the discharge can be brought about by applying A.C. to a primary coil in the same circuit.</p> |
