PURPOSE: To prevent the damage to a platinum-iridium electrode from being caused by the elution of iridium when the polarities of electrodes are reversed to perform the washing of an electrolytic cell in an electrolytic water maker using the platinum-iridium electrode as an anode and using a corrosion-resistant electrode as a cathode. CONSTITUTION: An electrolytic cell 11 is demarcated by a pair of diaphragms 12a, 12b to form first, second and third partition chambers and a platinum- iridium electrode 13a is arranged to the first partition chamber to constitute a first electrode chamber 14a and a platinum plated electrode 13b is arranged to the second partition chamber to constitute a second electrode chamber 14b and a platinum plated electrode 13C is arranged to the third partition chamber to constitute a third electrode chamber 14c. Water is electrolyzed between the first and second electrode chambers 14a, 14b and washing electrolysis is performed between the second and third electrode chambers 14b, 14c so as not to apply negative voltage to the platinum-iridium electrode 13a to prevent the elution of iridium. |
