In a tilting office chair, having a hollow support column 8, housing vertical springs 53, 54 or a stack of resilient conical washers, a lever 40 is mounted on a pivot 32 and is adjustable to pre-stress the springs. Metal bracket 5a is formed, by die-casting, about the head 20, of adjustment screw 19. On tilting the chair rearwardly, the springs are compressed but prevented from contacting the metal column 8, by plastic liner 55. The tilting is limited by stop 18 engaging flange 27a. |
