The locking device, which is provided for preventing even under severe vibration during the dehydration cycle a door(20) of a washing machine from opening, comprises a push button(11) mounted on the top surface of the door(20), three locker members(12,13,14) of the same figure, and a slidable connection rod(15) for interaction of the three locker members. The first locker member(12) hinged by a central hinge pin(12h) has a first arm(12a) journaled to the lower part of the push button, a second arm(12b) having a slot hole(12d) along the longitudinal direction and a claw(12f) at its free end, and a third arm(12c) journaled to the connection rod. A spring(16) is mounted in the slot hole(12d) of the first locker member to restrain the movement of the locker members. The second and third locker members(13,14) connected by the connection rod may release or lock the door through the openings(20a,30a,20b,30b) formed on the door and the housing of the washing machine.
