SINGLE MODE TYPE OPTICAL FIBER, ITS COATED FIBER, CORD AND COATED OPTICAL FIBER WITH CONNECTOR AND CORD

PURPOSE: To provide an optical fiber which has a wide band adequate for communication, allows the prevention of fiber crack or chip in spite of crimping to a crimp type connector by caulking so as to attain sufficient crimping force, is lowered in connection loss with the low loss by the crimping and the high accuracy of axis alignment, is easily joinable to an existing single mode type optical fiber having an optical fiber diameter of 125μm and has excellent interchangeability with this existing quartz single mode type optical fiber. CONSTITUTION: This single mode type optical fiber is composed of a core 1 consisting of quartz glass, a clad 2 consisting of quartz glass disposed in tight contact with the outer periphery of this core 1 and a polymer coating layer 3 disposed in tight contact with the outer periphery of this clad 2. This polymer coating layer 3 consists of a rigid polymer having Shore hardness of >=D55 and the thickness thereof is >=5μm. The polymer coating layer is provided with a primary coating layer 4 and a secondary coating layer 5 in tight contact with its outer periphery, by which the coated optical fiber is formed.
