PURPOSE: To give an effect that a person, etc., in an image seems to talk when message information is displayed together with the image of the face. CONSTITUTION: This image controller is equipped with a character input part 11 for inputting the message information to be displayed together with the image of the face, a ROM 3 which generates image data for a balloon, and a VDP 7 which generates a display signal of a composite image including the image of the face, an image of message information, and the image of the balloon according to image data of the face, image data of the message information, and image data of the balloon and outputs the signal to a display unit 16, and consequently when the message information is displayed together with the image of the person, etc., the display area of the message information is displayed while encircled with the balloon. A CPU 2 varies the size and position of the encircling figure as attributes to make a display which is rich in variety.
