PURPOSE: To prevent contamination of an original duplicating plate during duplication so as to stabilize product quality and reduce fabrication period and to provide a wide choice of resins by forming a thin metallic film in advance on a thermoplastic or thermosetting resin sheet or film for use in the fabrication of the original plate for a relief-pattern duplicating mold that employs thermocompression embossing. CONSTITUTION: A thin metallic film 2 is formed over a thermoplastic or thermosetting resin sheet or film 1 to provide a subject A to be embossed. After the subject A to be embossed is installed on the lower surface plate 5 of a press with the thin metallic film 2 up and is set in a desired position, an original duplicating plate 3 is heated and bonded under pressure by means of the upper surface plate 4 of the press. Next, a duplicating mold 6 is fabricated by electroforming or by a method of patterning a radiation-setting resin through exposure to radiation, etc. When the duplicating mold 6 is fabricated by electroforming, metallic thin film 2 may be made of a metal with conductivity by which it is usable as electroforming metal; when a resin is employed, the metallic thin film 2 is usable in a wide range of film thickness of about 0.04 to 0.2μm and the material from which the film is made is not limited to particular ones.
