PURPOSE: To provide a thermoelectric material, which is superior in economic efficiency and productivity, by a method wherein the intrinsic characteristics, such as semiconductor characteristics and superior oxidation resistance, of an iron silicide having sβ-FeSi2 phase are applied to practical use and the figure (z) of merit of the thermoelectric material is increased to improve the thermoelectric characteristics of the material. CONSTITUTION: A thermoelectric material is manufactured by a method of adding Cu to an iron silicide havingβ-FeSi2 phase. A material powder body compounded roughly into a composition of FeSi2 is melted using an arc and after the powder body is dissolved, a solidified material consisting of the dissolved powder body is ground into powder of a prescribed size or smaller, Cu powder of a size of the roughly same degree as the size of the powder is added to the powder and is mixed with the powder, an MA processing is performed by a vibrating mill and the mixed powder is hot-pressed to manufacture the thermoelectric material.
