The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein R 1 and R 2 , which may be the same or different, represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms or an alkoxy group containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms and X represents an oxygen atom, sulphur atom, the group -C(R)(R<SP>1</SP>)- (in which R and R<SP>1</SP>, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms or they may be joined together with the carbon atom to which they are attached to form a 5- or 6-membered saturated homocyclic ring) or the group in which R 1 and R 2 are as defined above. Such compounds are produced by reacting the corresponding phenolic compounds with a formamide derivative and phosphorus oxychloride or pentachloride, phosgene, thionyl chloride or sulphuryl chloride. Examples are furnished. The products are stabilizers for resinous polymers. |
