PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of defect parts which are the cause for discharge leakage by printing a substrate surface with striped barrier rib layers by using a screen, then rotating the substrate at a specific angle and subjecting the substrate to screen printing again. CONSTITUTION: Paste 36 for forming barriers is applied by printing, for example, three times, on a glass substrate 7 via meshes 25 exposed in printing image parts 24 not formed with the emulsion parts 23 of the screen 20, by which three layers of the striped layers are formed at the time of forming the barrier ribs 10b on the glass substrate 7 by using the screen 20. The glass substrate 7 is then rotated 180 deg. on the plane parallel with the substrate and is subjected to the printing again by the screen 20 in this position, by which three layers of the striped layers by the paste 26 are formed. The glass substrate 7 is henceforce rotated alternately 180 deg.C in these two positions and is repetitively subjected to screen printing three times each in the respective positions, by which the barrier ribs 10b of a layer thickness of about 100 to 300μm are formed.
