PURPOSE: To improve a packaging property by including a substrate having an optical waveguide structure on one surface and positioning grooves on the other surface and a substrate having optical fiber arranging grooves engaging with these grooves and approximately aligning the inter-optical waveguide spacings at the optical fiber connecting end faces of the substrate and the inter-positioning groove spacings thereof. CONSTITUTION: The optical waveguide substrate 11 is fixed to the optical fiber arranging substrate 21. The optical fiber arranging grooves for positioning and fixing the optical fibers to the optical waveguides are formed on the one surface of the substrate 21. The optical fiber arranging grooves of the optical fiber arranging substrate 21 are formed by molding of, for example, a mold material. The positioning grooves on the rear surface of the substrate 11 and the optical fiber arranging grooves on the front surface of the optical fiber arranging substrate 21 are respectively formed to V shapes continuous in their sections, are approximately aligned in their spacings and are shifted in phases by 1/2 pitch. Namely, the substrate 11 and the optical fiber arranging substrate 21 are closely fixed. As a result, the adjustment-free positioning and coupling of the optical fibers and the optical waveguides with high accuracy are embodied. |
