PURPOSE: To provide an ATM exchange which can effectively treat information that is balanced in both directions and also a large quantity of information that is unbalanced in both directions. CONSTITUTION: The program selection information 100 on the VOD service which is sent to a VOD service terminal 11 of a transmission line 16 and the information 102 such as the call setting information and the call information to be sent to a general terminal 13 are supplied to a line unit 15. The information on the terminal 13 is sent to the terminal 13 of a transmission line 23 via a path 17, a bidirectional balanced ATM switch 18, and a line unit 22. On the other hand, the information 100 is sent to a server 12 via the switch 18 and a trunk line unit 21. The video information 101 on the VOD service which is received from the server 12 is sent to the terminal 11 via the unit 21, a unidirectional ATM switch 19 and the path 17. The terminals 13 of the visual or digital telephones of both lines 16 and 23 perform the bidirectional communication via the switch 18. |
