PURPOSE: To form a magnetoresistance effect film having a cyclic structure of magnetic-nonmagnetic films in a several tensÅcycle in the film thickness direction and to obtain a magnetic head having high sensitivity to a magnetic field. CONSTITUTION: A magnetoresistance effect film 4 consisting of magnetic layers 2 and nonmagnetic layers 3 arranged in stripes is formed on a substrate 1. Variation in resistance to a magnetic field is increased when electric current is allowed to flow in a direction perpendicular to the stripes in the surface of the film and the objective magnetic head having high sensitivity is obtd. by using the magnetoresistance effect film.
