PURPOSE: To move a probe along a work easily even for a beginner by freely setting the direction to move the probe in real time by inclining the lever of a joystick. CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with plural joysticks 41A-41C for outputting voltage signals corresponding to the inclination angles of levers, A/D converters 42A-42C for converting the respective voltage signals to digital signals, and CPU 21 for setting a unit directional vector for defining the direction to drive a coordinate measuring instrument to the respective joysticks 41A-41C. Then, this device is provided with a product-sum arithmetic circuit 23 for calculating the scolar products of respective digital signals and respective unit directional vectors, synthesizing the provided vectors and calculating driving vectors, D/A converters 24A-24C for converting the driving vectors to analog signals, and respective axial motor driving circuits 25A-25C for driving the respective axial driving motors of the coordinate measuring instrument corresponding to the analog signals.
