PURPOSE: To provide a cathode active material, which is hardly expanded and contracted and hardly peels and drops off by charging and discharging, for a nonaqueous battery with a long life. CONSTITUTION: A pure cobalt-containing lithium nickelate is produced by using a cobalt-containing nickel oxyhydroxide as a nickel raw material in β-type, γ-type, or a mixture of the β-type and γ-type state as nickel oxyhydroxide. Since as nickel oxyhydroxide, uniform one with high surface area is preferable, it is preferable that the nickel oxyhydroxide has high evenness and average atomic valence at least 3 in β-type, γ-type, or a mixture of the β-type and γ-type state prepared by oxidizing spherical nickel hydroxide with at largest 100μm particle size by an oxidizing agent such as potassium peroxodisulfate. Furthermore, as a lithium source, lithium salts such as lithium nitrate, lithium hydroxide, etc., may be used and in the case lithium nitrate is used, electrochemical activity can be heightened. |
