A helical-flow vortex separator for separating particles from gases comprises a vortex chamber 1 having an inflow pipe 3 for crude gas 5, an oppositely disposed purified gas outlet 6, auxiliary medium inlets 2 opening into the chamber obliquely oppositely to the inflow direction of the crude gas for producing a helical flow system in the form of an external potential flow 7 and an internal rotary flow 9 circulating in the same direction and with opposite axial flow components such that the particles in the crude gas are carried outwards towards the vortex chamber wall and discharged through an outlet gap 13 between the wall and the inflow pipe 3, steam producing means being connected to the inlets 2 to provide steam as at least portion of the auxiliary medium. The inlets 2 may be constructed as Laval nozzles. The steam on entering the vortex chamber expands producing liquid droplets which accumulate on the very fine particles acting as condensation nuclei whereby the separating forces in the separator act more strongly on the particles.</p> |
