The processor has a spatial light modulator (1) formed of a rotation polarisation element which is illuminated by linearly polarised coherent light (3). The processor also has a detector element (2) for linear polarisation. This detects light deflected by the light modulator (1). The rotation polarisation element is arranged such that on one side of the incident light, the main axis directions (12) of liquid crystal molecules are adjusted to a direction of a linear polarisation axis of the coherent light (3). The linear polarisation detector element (2) is arranged such that a detection axis (21) of it crosses at right angles a main polarisation axis of a deflected light component (4) of zero order of the deflected light. The rotation polarisation element may be e.g. a solid state crystal element or a liquid crystal element. In the case of a liquid crystal element, it is preferably a 90 deg. rotated nematic element.
