<p>A control device for cylinder injection and spark ignition type internal combustion engines that is provided for switching fuel injection modes of the engine without causing misfire and smoke, deteriorating the exhaust emissions and fuel economy characteristics and generating switching shocks. An electronic control unit (70) of the control device sets either a first half period injection mode in which fuel is injected during an intake stroke or a second half period injection mode in which fuel is injected during a compression stroke in accordance with the operating conditions of the engine and also sets values of parameters related to the combusting condition of the engine such as fuel injection amount, ignition timing and exhaust gas re-circulating amount to the those that meet the set injection mode so that the operation of the engine is controlled. When an injection mode switching is required due to a charge in the engine operating condition, parameters are switched from those meeting an injection mode before the switching to those that meet an injection mode after the switching at a suitable timing.</p> |
