PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS FOR PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM DISORDERS

Patients susceptible to or suffering from central nervous system disorders (e.g., neurodegenerative diseases including presenile dementia, senile dementia of the Alzheimer's type, and Parkinsonism including Parkinsons's disease, and other CNS disorders including attention deficit disorder, schizophrenia and Tourette's syndrome) are treated by administering an effective amount of 2-azabicyclo [2.2.1] hept-5-ene and 2-azabicyclo [2.2.2] oct-5-ene compounds. Exemplary compounds are (+/-)-3-exo and (+/-)-3-endo forms of 2-methyl-3-(3-pyridyl)-2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene, (+/-)-3-exo and (+/-)-3-endo forms of 2-methyl-3-(3-pyridyl)-2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene, (+/-)-3-exo and (+/-)-3-endo forms of 2-benzyl-3-(3-pyridyl)-2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene, (+/-)-3-exo and (+/-)-3-endo forms of 2-para-anisyl-3-(3-pyridyl)-2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene, (+/-)-3-exo and (+/-)-3-endo forms of 3-(3-pyridyl)-2-azabicyclo[2.2.2]oct-5-ene, (+/-)-3-exo and (+/-)-3-endo forms of 3-(3-pyridyl)-2-azabicyclo[2.2.2.]oct-5-ene, (+/-)-3-exo and (+/-)-3-endo forms of 2-methyl-3-(3-pyridyl)-2-azabicyclo[2.2.2.]oct-5-ene, the racemic form of 3-(3-pyridyl)-2-azabicyclo[2.2.2]octane, and the racemic form of 2-methyl-3-(3-pyridyl)-2-azabicyclo[2.2.2]octane.
