The device has a valve (9) whose valve closure device can be moved from an open position into a closed position. At least one electrically operated drive device (11) is connected to the valve closure element. A sensor device (13) connected to a controller (19), generates a signal characteristic of a defined position of the valve closure element. The controller is connected to the drive device which it controls by generating output signals which cause the valve closure element to be changed over to the defined position at defined time intervals.
