The drive shaft (1) is permanently joined to the bevel gear (2). The mutually engaged gears (3,4) transmit their reciprocating movements to their housing (9,10) via inner rings (6), rollers (8) and freewheel boss outer rings (7), and entrain the gear shaft (11) alternately left and right in the drive direction. A gear (3) turns to the left to transmit its drive movement positively via bosses (5) and housing (9) to the gear shaft as opposed to the right-hand sense in which gear (4) transmits its drive movement positively in the same direction as gear via bosses and housing (10). Gears are toothed or keyed (14) to the inner rings of the bosses, using ball or slide bearings, and the bosses transmit their torque via balls, rollers, levers or springs as appropriate to the applied load.
