The invention relates to a process for producing metallic composite materials in which a material with different properties is applied to at least one side of a parent bar. According to the invention, the parent bar is taken through a melt having the same material composition as the parent bar. The melt crystallises inversively and, after leaving the melt bath at a predeterminable distance from the bath surface, a composite section is taken to the carrier section and is brought into contact with the surface of the carrier section for welding. The invention also relates to a device for implementing the process.
