The measuring sensor (S) travels along the guide (L) in the direction of the body (K), until a shadowing of the measuring beam results at a 1st position. A 1st straight line (G1) is determined at the 1st position based on the geometric data of the measuring system. The measuring system is rotated at a specified angle and the sensor repeats its contour travel, until a shadowing results again at a 2nd position (P2). A 2nd straight line (G2) is determined at the 2nd position. The intersection point of the 1st and 2nd straight lines (G1, G2) is computed. The earlier steps are repeated, so that respectively the intersection point of the newly determined straight line with the previous line is determined. If the last computed intersection point deviates from the previous intersection point, the last determined straight line (G3) is used as the first of a new measuring sequence.
