Boiling shield for wort kettle to deflect rising wort stream

Vertically rising wort stream in wort kettle is deflected by a boiling shield (4) into outwards-directed horizontal or inclined streams, the shield having the shape of a flat cone, the surface of which has angular corrugations. Radial troughs (23), widening from the centre outwards, are formed on the underside of the shield, such that two adjacent troughs have a common valley line (22). The troughs have two walls which pref. enclose an angle of about 90 deg. with the ridge line (23a) of the trough. The shield is pref. mfd. from angle sections (19) which are joined together by welding and is mounted to be adjustable in height. Improves evapn. of undesired aromatic substances
