Image restoration using background cleaning process

An electronic image obtained from a document is subjected to a process in which the information is filtered in such a way that only the foreground information is extracted. The generated information serves as an output image that is used for image restoration. The information is used as a reference image that is compared with the remaining image data in a process operating on adjacent image points. Typically the heavily filtered image has a number of line points (10) and many of these are eliminated in the comparison process.
