The beam (A) from te transmitter unit (12) impinges on the wood parts, and the receiver unit (14) receives a beam (B) reflected from the wood parts. An evaluation unit (16) determines the Doppler frequency, based on the transmitted and received beam frequencies. The respective speed is determined from the Doppler frequency and by continuous integration, computes the speed over the time of the respective length progress, or computes the respective total length of the wood part.
