The cine shutter has a shorter dark phase to increase the overall illumination intensity. The distortion due to residual movement of the film in the projection phase is reduced by optical compensators and by film movement monitors. The compensators are moved independent to the film/gate drive and provide a flicker free projection. Simple compensators include tilting glass blocks or prisms and movable lens elements. The prisms/blocks can be rotated or rocked as appropriate.
