Tappet for IC engine valve drive

The tappet (1) has a hollow cylindrical wall (2) axially movable in a cylindrical bore of the engine cylinder head. It is closed by a floor (3) at its end, facing the control cam. The cylindrical wall is stiffened. Over the entire axial length of the cylindrical wall are located annular grooves (4) in regular spacing. Pref. the grooves are rectangular, triangular, or trapezoidal. The tappet is mfd. in a multistage, chipless machining, with the grooves formed by rolling.
