The wind-powered wheel has a rotor (2) on a vertical main shaft (1) with at least two carrier frames (3,4) perpendicular to the main shaft. At least one wind vane (5-9) arranged on each carrier arm is hinged about an axis parallel to the vertical shaft and each arm has a vane stop (11). The wind forces the vane or vanes on one carrier arm against its stop, whereby a torque acts on the rotor and the wind frees the vane or vanes on the other carrier arm from the stop so that this vane or these vanes stand free in the wind. The wind vanes are aerodynamically profiled.
