RAPID DETECTION OF EXPLOSIVES RESIDUE FROM THE DEFLAGRATION SIGNATURE THEREOF

Apparatus and method for a rapid detection of explosives residue from the deflagration temperature thereof. A property to most explosives is their stickiness, resulting in a strong tendency of explosive particulate to contaminate the environment of bulk explosive. An apparatus for collection of residue which has a vacuum hose (12) where the particles (10) flow past a hot surface (14), controlled by a controller (22), where deflagration can occur. A sensor (24) controlled by electronics (26) receives the output of the particles (10) which is then subsequently sent to an analyzer (28). The present invention can be utilized for real-time screening of personnel, cars, packages, suspect devices, etc..., and provides an inexpensive, portable, and noninvasive device for detecting explosives.
