The electrical gas discharge bulb has a glass enclosure (1) with a base socket having projecting connecting pins (3). These are sealed into the base by applying molten glass beads (12) and are connected with the cold electrodes (4,11). One cold electrode is located within an insulating tube of glass (15) and this avoids a short circuit between the electrodes. The pins fit into contact elements (19) within the adapter (2).
