The frame includes a longitudinal bearer (1) which can be extruded from non-ferrous metal. The longitudinal bearer is welded at the front end to a transverse bearer (2). The transverse bearer can be used e.g. to support a bumper. There is an aperture (7) in the upper wall (30) and lower wall (4) extending from the endface edge (8) of the longitudinal bearer. At least in the region of the endface edge, the recess may extend across the entire width of the extrusion wall (3,4). The recess may be roughly trapezoid in shape, with the longer side of the trapezium facing the transverse bearer.
