The present invention relates to a process and device for manufacturing synthesis gas. The reactor according to the invention comprises, inside a single casing: a non-catalytic combustion chamber (1) comprising at least one means (2) for injecting fuel and at least one means (3) for injecting oxidant in order to produce partial combustion in the said so-called "sufficient residence time" chamber, and at least on catalytic bed (4) into which the gases issuing from the combustion chamber (1) emerge, and additionally comprising at least one means (6) for injecting additional oxidant and at least one means (7) for injecting fuel. The reactor and the process according to the invention can be applied to any chemical manufacture using synthesis gas.
