An apparatus for controlling the opening and closing of a vehicle window comprises an electric motor 66 for moving the window and a switch 62 for energizing the electric motor 66. The switch includes a first electrical contact and a second electrical contact electrically insulated from each other on a base 100. An electrically conductive disk has a periphery in electrical communication with one of the first and second electrical contacts and is resiliently deflectable into engagement with the other of the first and second electrical contacts. A lever 104 is manually pivotable from a neutral position to a limit position to close the contacts via a plunger 126 to cause the motor 66 to be energised for a predetermined period. When the lever 104 is pivoted to an intermediate position between the neutral and limit positions, a rocker contact (182, Fig 5) supported on the base 100 engages a fixed contact (184) to cause the motor 66 to be energised whilst the lever 104 is held in the intermediate position. The base 100 supports two sets of dome and rocker contacts, one set being operated to open the window when the lever 104 is pivoted in one direction from the neutral position and the other set being operated to close the window when the lever 104 is pivoted in the other direction.
