PURPOSE: To certainly detect the operational abnormality in the driving system of a rotary drum and a recording head part in a thermal transfer printer allowing laser beam to be incident on the ink sheet on the recording paper wound around the rotary drum through the recording head part to print data on the recording paper. CONSTITUTION: The rotary encoder 13 arranged to the motor 12 rotating a rotary drum 10 having recording paper on which an ink sheet IS is superposed wound therearound to detect the rotary state of the rotary drum 10, the magnetic scale 16 arranged to the linear motor mechanism moving a recording head part 15 allowing the laser beam emitted from a laser beam generation part 21 to be incident on the ink sheet IS superposed on the recording paper on the rotary drum 10 to detect the moving state of the recording head part 15 and a magnetic scale head part 18 are provided. A control unit discriminating abnormal operation on the basis of the rotation detection output signal from the rotary encoder 13 and the movement detection output signal from the magnetic scale head part 18 is provided. |
