PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition having excellent adhesion to the dentin and dental alloys, etc., by using curings due to both polymerizing reaction of a polymerizable unsaturated organic compound and acid-base reaction of a polycarboxylic acid with an oxide powder in combination. CONSTITUTION: This dental cement composition is obtained by combining (a) a polymer of anα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid having 5,000-40,000 weight- average molecular weight with (b) a polymerizable unsaturated organic compound having at least one group of the formula, CH2 =C(R1 )-COO (R1 is H or CH3 ), (c) a compound having sulfoxide group of the formula [(n) is 1-12; R2 is an alkyl; R3 is H or O-C(=O)-R4 (R4 is a hydrocarbon)], (d) water, (e) an oxide reactive with the component (a) and (f) a polymerization catalyst. The blending ratio thereof is 5-100 pts.wt. component (a), 5-100 pts.wt. component (b), 0.1-40 pts.wt. component (c), 5-50 pts.wt. component (d), 5-100 pts.wt. component (e) and 0.01-5 pts.wt. component (f). When a fluoroaluminoslicate glass is especially used as a cement powder, the composition is capable of providing a dental cement having both firm adhesion and durability in addition to characteristics thereof.
