PURPOSE: To detect the bioelectric signal in a stable condition by providing a sleep detecting means to judge that the sleep is generated when the value to indicate theα-wave to be detected by anα-wave detecting means and a nystagmus detecting means and the value to indicate the nystagmus are inputted and simultaneously detected. CONSTITUTION: A sleep detecting means 6 to detect the sleep by amplifying the small nystagmus signal to be extracted by a filter 5a, and inputting the signal to indicate theα-wave to be outputted by anα-wave detecting means 4 and the signal to indicate the nystagmus to be outputted by a nystagmus detecting means 5 is provided. That means, theα-wave in the electroencephalogram generated in the beginning of the sleep of a living body is detected, and the sleep is detected when the movement of the eye lid is detected simultaneously with the appearance of theα-wave. Right and leftα-wave detecting electrodes 2a, 2b are fitted to a part easy to detect theα-wave of the parietal region.
