PURPOSE: To conduct the efficient biological performance of an aq. medium at a low cost at the time of bringing a compd. decomposing microorganism into contact with the aq. medium contaminated with an aromatic compd. or an org. chlorine compd. by allowing a microorganism propagation stimulating agent to coexist with the microorganism. CONSTITUTION: In the biological purifying method using a microorganism, a fine particle (a microorganism propagation stimulating agent consisting of the clay particle of bentonite, etc., having <=2μm diameter and montmorillonite) having a microorganism propagation promoting action is allowed to coexist with a decomposing microorganism such as Pseudomonas cepacia KKO1. Consequently, even the decomposing microorganism added in low concn. to the contaminated aq. medium is propagated to a high concn. in a short time due to the stimulating agent since the propagation of the microorganism is promoted, and the efficiency in decomposing the contaminant such as aromatic compd. and org. chlorine compd. is improved. By such a powerful propagating action of the stimulating agent, perferable propagating capacity is maintained in the deteriorated environment, e.g. low temp. of 10-30 deg.C and oligotrophic, and the culture cost is reduced.
