PURPOSE: To remove the chromium component of a chromium-base catalyst from a liquid reaction product formed in the reaction for forming a lowα-olefin polymer in the presence of the catalyst. CONSTITUTION: A reaction for forming a lowα-olefin polymer is performed in a solvent in the presence of a catalyst comprising either a combination essentially consisting of a chromium compound (a), a nitrogenous compound (b) selected from the group consisting of amines, amides and imides and an alkylaluminum compound (c) or a combination containing these components and a halogen compound (d). The liquid reaction product is degassed and heated to 100 deg.C or above to precipitate the chromium component of the catalyst from the liquid. In this way, the chromium component of the catalyst can be removed at good efficiency by a simple operation.
