PURPOSE: To obtain a recording medium, enabling high density recording, excellent in storage corrosion resistance, travel durability, and storage durability, by introducing a highly rust-proofing aminoquinone compound into a binder component in a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION: This recording medium is obtained by coating a non-magnetic substrate with a magnetic layer containing (A) a ferromagnetic powder and (B) an abrasive material. In at least one resin composition of a binder component of this magnetic layer, there is contained as constitutive unit at least one of the aminoquinone structures of formula I (R1 is H, an alkyl, aralkyl or phenyl group) and formula II (R2 is an alkylene or phenylene group; Y is N or CH), and the Mohs hardness of the component B is 6 or more. The component B is e.g. Al2 O3 , Cr2 O3 , SiC, diamond, etc., being preferably in an amount of 0.05 to 30wt.% based on the component A. The content of the structure(s) of formula I and/or II is 0.01 to 40wt.%, preferably 0.1 to 30wt.% based on the whole amount of the binder. As the component B, spherical silica having an average particle diameter of 1.0μm or less may be used.
