PURPOSE: To provide a washing machine having the function performing the collision detecting and proper stream detecting functions with one detecting means. CONSTITUTION: An instruction is sent from a process controller 10 to a rotating means 5 for proper stream detection, and rotary vanes 4 are rotated. The sum of the change quantity from the initial value of the output of a detecting means 9 and the sum of the output change quantity while the detecting stream is generated are calculated by the process controller 10, and the proper stream can be determined when they are compared withα,β, respectively.
