Aluminium is degreased (pref. hot alkali at 60-70 degrees C), pickled and scoured (pref. by electrolytic treatment in caustic soln.), and activated (HNO3 soln. contg. ammonium bifluoride) and then electroplated with a bronze contg. 5-95% Cu. It is subsequently electroplated with various metals e.g. Cu, Sn, Ag, suitable for elec. applications. The plating is resistant to corrosion, thermal shock, bending, soldering, etc., being firmly adherent and not susceptible to peeling or blistering as shown by conventional Zn coatings.
|
