Styrene-maleic anhydride copolymers of average molecular weight 1000-3000, preferably 1500-2000 are used as dispersion agents and /or for treatment of mineral fillers of basic type or having surfaces with free hydroxyl groups in thermoplastic resins, homopolymers without aryl groups and a unique carbon skeleton or copolymers with aryl groups and a skeleton composed of solely carbon and oxygen in which the content of oxygen atoms does not exceed 22 wt.%. Also claimed are thermoplastic compositions containing the copolymers.
