Sheet material used in building comprises a synthetic resin containing a filler, a layer of fibrous reinforcement such as a mat or woven fabric embedded in each side of the sheet, and a surface layer of crushed stone. The material may be made by impregnating a reinforcement layer with the filler-containing resin, adding a coarser filler, applying and embedding a second filler layer, scattering fine filler on the surface, and curing the resin. Suitable resins are polyesters and epoxy resins. Suitable fillers are crushed stone, e.g. marble flour, sand, gravel, mica, sintered clay or perlite. The reinforcement may comprise a glass fibre mat or fabric or a fabric of jute.</p> |
